Carmen Amrein completed her diploma in Hackbrett, Salterio, trad. German folk music, Zither and elementary music education at the University of Music and Theater, Munich with high honors in 2010. She received her lessons from: Birgit Stolzenburg (Hackbrett, Salterio), Georg Glasl (Zither), Sepp Hornsteiner (Trad. German folk music) and Eva-Ruth Kahmann (early music education).

 

Amrein makes music with great pleasure as a soloist or in small and large ensembles, such as the Hackbrett / harp duo Weltenbummler. In addition to Germany, she also performed in Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Great Britain, Canada and the USA. The artist spent the 2011/12 school year in Canada and the United States and was frequently involved in concerts, festivals and classes. After a short parental leave, Amrein has been back on stage since September 2018 with her children's concert concept Bambini Concerts.

 

At the beginning of 2021, she and her fellow students Komalé Akakpo and Franz Anton Peter launched the Hackbrett Online Festival and the Hackbrett workshop online days. Amrein taught at different online festivals such as Hackbrett Online Festival 1.0 and 2.0 and Nutmeg Dulcimer Festival in Oct. 2021 with Hackbrett, Hammered Dulcimer and Salterio.

 

Since her studies, the Hackbrettist has participated in numerous Hackbrett and Salterio world premieres by Dorothea Hofmann, Frederik Schwenk and Harald Behringer, among others.

 

She premiered in the orchestra pit in September 2008, when she took part in the world premiere and the subsequent performances of the children's opera Die verlorenen Gedanken (The Lost Thoughts) by the Munich composer Marco Hertenstein in Kaufbeuren and in October 2009 at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Munich).

 

While touring the american east coast in 2005, Amrein and her duo partner Jutta Claar were invited to Radio Gettysburg station, where she made her first radio appearance. Later she was heard at Classic Radio station in Germany. Her first television appearance was on January 8th, 2010 with Jutta Claar in the SWR show Kaffee oder Tee?.

 

In 2011 she was engaged by the University of Music in Nuremberg as Salterio soloist for the Georg Ph. Telemann opera project Flavius Bertardius.

 

In 2006 she won the State Prize at Jugend Musiziert (German music championship for the youth) with outstanding success in the Hackbrettsolo category. For several years now, the qualified music teacher has been sitting on the other side of the table and is regularly invited back Jugend Musiziert competition as a juror.
